The reality is that we have to learn to live with corona. The virus will not go away so early. It has come to stay for a long spell. Yet lockdown can not go on for months. It will hurt the economy and society in every aspect. The vaccine is yet to come. Until then, let's get used to wearing a face mask, sanitizing hands, getting temperature-checked everywhere and social-distancing. All these measures will reduce the spread of the virus.

Face Masks are the New Normal: Make it a Fashion Statement.

It's true that face masks are considered to be the new normals. These are not only becoming a necessity but showing the sign of responsibility and care for our community. It's my personal experience that those who are not covering their face besides maintaining the proper hygeine social distancing, are getting infected much.

So widespread use of face covers is very effective in reducing the transmission. Why don't we make our new normals in fashion?

With the world, our country too is opening up. Slowly people are stepping out of their protected places. Our government has given us the mandate to cover our face as we step out. Being the responsible citizens, we're going according to Government orders. Though, fashionistas are getting bored with wearing those boring masks. They are trying to find ways to match their masks with the outfits. At this point, fashion designers have come to work.

The designers from every corner of the world, are working on these necessities of life to turn into colorful, designer ones. They're creating their own line of customized masks with unique designs and graphics. They have nothing to do with those monotonous white, yellow, grey masks you're buying from your nearest medical stores. Let's be prepared to be safe, smart and fashionable.

         Made from leftover fabrics

Indian designers, artisans have come up with fashionable designer masks. They look totally different, made of solid or printed crepe, cotton, jute, silk and other soft fabrics. These masks are being made fashionable and at the same time useful in keeping you safe. What harm to take these for mere accessories?

Let's look into some trendy options for face masks.

Customize Your Own Fashion Statement:

You can also make use of your leftover fabrics to customize your own face coverings. Any types of fabric will be helpful starting from cotton, crepe to silk, jute, etc. Anything soft and skin-loving will work. Before going to discard your old clothes, please reconsider once. And the added bonus is that these will be some unique gifts for your family and friends. Isn't it something crazy? You can show your love and care for them.

This mask is made of the leftover from that blouse. When I gave this cloth to my designer, I told her to make this three-layered face cover. You can also try with anything you like. You can use your old cotton dupattas, skirts, sarees, those you may not be wearing for long. By this, you might have got an opportunity to promote sustainable living.

Note: Please keep in mind, still the best face mask is an N95 mask, especially for those who travel by public transport. Surgical masks come next and then fabric face coverings. Cotton ones can prevent large particles, still, you need to keep 6 feet distance at the public places, like grocery stores, shopping malls and all.
