Calming Cleanser Cum Mask Using Oats, Kaolin clay and Dried Lavender Buds


A facial treatment for fresh and bright skin does not need to be done in a beauty salon, nor does it require expensive products that end up making your purse thinner. While homemade beauty solutions (read masks) being the new phenomenon have been around since the beginning of civilization. I also believe in skincare recipes utilizing natural oils, herbs, flowers, fruits, clays and all.

The recipe I'm going to share today is super beneficial for skincare. It contains only three ingredients, my favourite ingredients though, Oats, Kaolin clay and Dried Lavender buds. Let's talk about the DIY cleanser + scrub + mask.


This is a 'dry mask' and you can add the liquid of your choice to make a smooth paste. It will be gentle enough to suit every skin type, even hyper sensitive skin and will not be messy.

The Recipe of the Mask:

The measurement I am talking about is for one week use. Make it and keep it in perfectly sterilized, dry glass jar. No need to refrigerate.

¼ th cup Oatmeal

2 TBS Kaolin clay. (Find it here.) 

1 TBS Lavender buds (dried) (Find it here.)

Keep all the ingredients in a grinder to make a smooth powder. Store in the jar, provided the jar might be perfectly dry.


How to use:

Every day whenever you use, take one TSP of the powder, add some liquid of your choice. That may be plain water, hydrosol, aloe vera gel, rosewater or any face mist you have in your closet. For cleansing keep the paste on your face for 2 minutes and wash off after rubbing in a circular motion. If you want to use as mask ( suggested to use at night), keep the paste at least for 10 minutes and wash off with water.



Oatmeal calms and nourishes the skin. It treats the skin damaged by pollution, UV rays of sun and harsh chemicals, soothes acne, and is a great exfoliating agent, especially for super sensitive skin. Kaolin clay amazingly draws out impurities from the pores and removes excess sebum from the face, without stripping out the natural oils. Lavender buds soothes inflammation as well relaxes the senses.
