There are many videos and articles over the internet on how to determine your tone and undertone. Once you have done that you will find that the “no makeup” makeup look is just a matter of time. In this article we will share with you all the steps which will help you achieve a pretty face without looking overboard.

How to Achieve a Natural Makeup Look

To achieve a no-makeup makeup look, there are some things you need to keep in mind and this is exactly what we are going to tell you in details in this segment.

Step 1: Prep your skin

Prepping your skin before makeup is very important. Proper skincare prior to makeup can save your skin from the damages that can be caused due to excessive usage of chemicals. Do not forget to properly cleanse, tone and I’d rate your skin. A lightweight moisturiser which is not greasy or oily will keep your skin hydrated and will also enable your makeup to glide on smoothly. If you are applying makeup on the daytime then make sure to protect your skin with proper sunblock. After skincare, it is crucial to apply the primer. This will not only give your skin a smooth finish but will also blur out any visible pores. You can choose from a wide range of primers like illuminating, radiant, silicone-based etc., as per your convenience. The main work of the primer is to give you that perfect base and also enable your makeup to stay longer.

Step 2: Foundation

Since you are going for a natural “no makeup” makeup look, make sure to choose the right foundation. Make sure to choose a lightweight foundation with sheer to medium coverage. Full coverage foundation can be quite thick which can make your face look heavy and made up. You can also ditch your foundation for a tinted moisturizer or a BB cream. These can also give you the desired natural finish. Also, pick a shade which matches your skin exactly, neither too light nor too dark. If you cannot seem to find your exact shade then you can create your own customized shade by mixing two foundations together. Use a blending brush or a beauty blender to blend your foundation.

Step 3: Concealer

Use a concealer which is an exact match to your skin tone. Conceal only the imperfections which are visible to naked eye. Do not go overboard with it. Conceal the under eyes and other blemishes or spots that you have. Use your blending brush or your beauty blender to blend it all in. You can so use the warmth of your fingers to blend in the concealer. Remember to blend it in a buffing motion. Do not swipe or drag your concealer or it can just slide from where it is supposed to be.

Step 4: Eyes

Now moving on to the eyes, start by grooming your brows. Just remember that it is all about the natural and imperfect look so use a brow powder to fill in the sparse areas and it is enough to do the trick. Moving on to the lashes, use a volumizing mascara to give the illusion of fuller and thicker lashes. Just one coat will be enough to give the desired length and volume that you want. Lastly, tight-line your upper lash line to make your lashes appear darker and thicker. Also use more subtle colors like black or dark brown. You can also apply eyeshadow if you want. A brown shade will provide the much desired natural look.

Step 6: Cheeks

Now it’s time to add some color to the cheeks. Start by applying a bronzer along your airline and cheekbones just to add a little bit of warmth to your face. Make sure not to go overboard and just subtly brush the bronzer across your face. For blush go for a cream blush because it is lightweight and sheer. Go for pink or peachy or neutral tones. These tones work well for all skin tones and it gives you that perfect translucent color. Make sure to blend everything in because blending is the key.

Step 7: Lips

Your lips are the most important part of your body and getting this part right is a very important trick for a natural makeup look as well. Before choosing any lip product bite your lips and see what is the natural color of your lips. It can be pink, brown, slightly red etc., Once you have decided this choose a creamy matte lip color and fill in your lips. You can also go for a tinted lip balm or a lip ink if you want.

Makeup Products to Avoid

The natural makeup look is all about being raw and natural in front of the public. BB cream and a little bit of touch up are all for this look. But here are some products or say ingredients which must be avoided to achieve a natural makeup look.

  • No to the foundation – A natural makeup look is not about buffing yourself with loads of foundation. It is instead everything without a foundation. So, a big no to the foundation is needed.
  • Why contour? – The natural makeup look is all about hiding your scars and blemishes and that’s all. Contouring is a further process in makeup rituals. So, one should definitely avoid it.
  • Don’t allow products with parabens – Products which are not paraben-free must be excluded from your natural makeup routine. Parabens are infused in so many makeup products and hence they must be eliminated from the routine.
  • Polyethylene as an ingredient – This ingredient is infused in a number of scrubs, makeup products and body wash as well. So, it is better to avoid this ingredient and products which are infused with it.

  1. I always replace foundation & concealer with lacto calamine lotion and tinted moisturizer.
Never gave a thought to applying bronzer, but from now on, will surely include it in my look. :)
    Thanks a bunch
