What is Herbs Infused Oil?

A herbs infused oil (also known as macerated oil) is a carrier oil has been infused with the effectiveness of different herbs or flowers. During the process, the herbs or flowers are infused in the oil for certain period of time to extract numerous nourishing and healing properties of the plant into a usable form.

Using these oils is a perfect way to help nourish and hydrate your skin and hair to make them look healthy and youthful. Anyone, irrespective of skin type, concern and age can use this oil.

Now, let me tell you how did I make this oil.

For this I have used carrier oils those are lightweight, suitable for all skin and hair types, easily absorbed into the skin and hair, and are beneficial for both. The carrier oils I've used Jojoba oil, Sweet Almond oil, Grapeseed oil and Coconut oilAnd the herbs are Seabuckthorn berries, Rosemary, Thyme and Sage. Those are all dried herbs.

What is a carrier oil:

Carrier oils are so named because they carry essential oils into our skin. Essential oils are so potent that you can't use them directly.. If applied to the skin directly, they can cause reactions, such as severe irritation, redness or burning. For that, you have to dilute them in the carrier oils before applying to the skin or hair. Most commonly used carrier oils are Coconut oil, Jojoba oil, Grapeseed oil, Black cumin seed oil, Argan oil.

The process is that the herbs should be immersed fully in the carrier oils and left for over a period of atleast 4 weeks. It's suggested not to keep the bottle with herbs and carrier oils in direct sunlight. I would keep the bottle at the shady corner of my balcony. For this purpose I did reuse properly sterilized jam bottles. After 4 weeks brought the bottle in and strain the contents through a muslin cloth, squeezing to remove all the oil. Leave the oil to settle before using. And the herbs residue I strained, was kept in a grinder to make a smooth paste. And used this as hair and face mask.

You can get the herbs and oils here.

How do I use this oil?

I use it as the last step in my night skincare after applying the moisturizer to lock it into the skin. The oil not only repairs the skin barrier overnight but hydrates and revitalizes the skin too. Also I use few drops in my face mask. This oil is safe for baby's skin too. Besides, using in the skin, this oil is great for using on hair and scalp too. It can be used as the pre-poo treatment. It penetrates deep into the hair shafts to make it healthy and shiny. Works on dandruff and promotes hair growth.

Now, let me know what is your favourite herb and which carrier oil you want to use?
